Professional Life

He was called to The Bahamas Bar in 1980 and remained in private practice for ten years (seven of them spent at the chamber of Messrs. McKinney Bancroft and Hughes).  In 1990 he worked at the offices of the Attorney General and was seconded to the Real Property Tax Department of the Ministry of Finance where he was the Legal Advisor.  In 1994 he became the Director of Culture.  Since 1990 he has been the Founder/Director of The Bahamas National Youth Choir. He is a former President of the Nassau Music Society, a former Music Critic and Arts Columnist with the Tribune (a local daily newspaper), a member of the Antiquities Monuments and Museums Board, a member of the National Art Gallery Committee and a Member of the Advisory Board of the Nassau Guardian (another local daily newspaper).

He is the recipient of many awards including the Distinguished Citizen Award from The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, the Charles H. Fisher Award which is the highest award in music offered by The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union, Men of Distinction Award from the Kiwanis Club of Nassau, The Silver Jubilee Award from The Bahamas Government, the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Bahamian Association of Artistic Performers and the Certificate of Recognition for outstanding work from the Gabriel Mistral International Awards of the Organization of American States.

He is a published composer (Hal Leonard Corporation, USA) and wrote the first Bahamian concert mass, “Missa Caribe," and the first grand opera to have been written and performed in the English speaking Caribbean, “Our Boys.”  During 2002 he received an award for his work in the arts from the International Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
